How does one reconcile these two images, a man charging in full armor into battle and a man jousting with a carpet?
Simple. As Knights of the Holy Eucharist we serve Christ and his Church. Humility allows our hearts to be hollowed so that they may be filled with the nobility of all the virtues — perfected in Christ as Franciscan Knights.
There may be a time when we battle externally to keep a shrine or a church open. There is never a moment when we do not battle internally to subject our pride. In fact, from the soul’s perspective, it may take more man-courage to defeat the dirty carpet or wash the stone steps that help pilgrims feel welcome that to fight another in hand-to-hand.
Humble service perfects the armor of all future battles.
