Devotion to the Divine Child Jesus (Divino Nino) in the United States has grown in popularity in recent times, in large part due to our beloved foundress Mother Angelica’s fervent devotion to Him.
“In 1995, Mother Angelica traveled to Colombia to raise funds and seek assistance for EWTN’s Spanish programs. She was invited by Salesian Father Juan Pablo Rodriguez to attend Mass at the Sanctuary of the Divine Infant Jesus in Bogotá. It was here where Mother Angelica heard the words that gave her a new mission: to build a shrine honoring the True Presence of Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
“This project would culminate in a beautiful church attached to a monastery for her growing community of Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration, a community dedicated to a life of prayer, penance, and adoration of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.
“As she visited the small chapel dedicated to the Divine Child, she heard the statue speak in the voice of a young boy. ‘Build Me a Temple,’ the voice said, ‘and I will help those who help you.’ Mother Angelica heeded those words as she had responded to the challenging commands of the Lord so often before.
“She shared the story with her community after returning to Alabama and shortly thereafter Divine Providence provided five very generous families who offered to completely fund this ambitious project. Thus, without taking any funds from EWTN and without having to raise any funds on her own, Mother Angelica was able to bring to fruition her desire, born of a request from the Divine Child, to build a shrine and “Temple” where people of all faiths could adore Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament.”
Below we share two beautiful prayers to the Divine Child Jesus:
Prayers to the Divine Child Jesus
Divine Child Jesus, we believe in You; We adore You; and we love You; have mercy on us sinners.
We’ve come to this Temple in response to your love. We’ve come in response to your mercy and grace. We are here because You invited us to come before You and to pour out the cares of our hearts to You since You deeply care for each of us.
We remember Your words to the disciples: “Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find. Knock and the door shall be opened.” Trusting in your infinite goodness and trusting that You always keep your promise, we now ask this intention which we pray in the silence of our hearts…(silently mention the request).
Thank you, Divine Child Jesus, for listening attentively to our prayers all the time. We hope that You will ask this before Our Heavenly Father. And, if what we ask for may not be good for our salvation and sanctification, we trust that you will grant us instead what we truly need, so that one day we may be with You for all eternity enjoying that ultimate happiness of Heaven.
Divine Child Jesus, bless and protect us.
Divine Child Jesus, bless and lead us.
Divine Child Jesus, bless and provide for us.
All this we ask through the intercession of your Holy Mother, Mary, and in Your powerful and Most Holy Name, Jesus. Amen
O Divine Child Jesus, I come before You, moved by love and by hope; and I beg You to look mercifully into my troubled heart. Let Your own tender Love, always inclined to compassion, mitigate my troubles and alleviate my sufferings. Take from me, if it be Your Will, all unbearable afflictions; and let me never surrender to despair. Grant me, dear Child Jesus, the special grace I ask from You today in all humility and with a loving trust; and for the sake of Your Sacred Childhood, always hear my prayers.
Through Your Holy Mother Mary, I consecrate myself to Your Sacred Heart. I am all Yours. My body is Yours, for You created it. My soul is Yours, for You redeemed it with the price of Your Precious Blood. I proclaim You as my Lord, my Savior, my King, and my true Friend. I adore You as my God and my Sovereign.
O Divine Child Jesus, give me Your love and send me Your blessing, now and for all eternity. Be generous with Your aid and consolation, that through Mary, our Mother, I may always praise You, and the Father, and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
